Spanish in Action – Surfing
Description
This program is designed for international students who want to improve their Spanish while enjoying surfing on the best beaches of the Asturian coast, specifically in Salinas, one of the most popular beaches for this sport in northern Spain. It is aimed at beginner, intermediate, and advanced Spanish students. Spanish classes will be held in Avilés and surfing lessons in Salinas.

Spanish classes focus on improving students’ communication skills, with a practical approach tailored to each level. The content includes specific surfing vocabulary, as well as everyday situations so students can navigate social and sports environments.
Contents by Level
Principiante:
- Basic vocabulary: parts of a surfboard, waves, weather conditions, and necessary equipment.
- Basic grammar, routine expressions, and useful phrases for communicating on the beach.
- Simulation activities: how to order equipment, inquire about sea conditions, and describe simple surfing experiences.
Intermediate:
- Specific vocabulary: surfing techniques, types of waves, the coastal environment.
- Intermediate level grammar for narrating surfing experiences and talking about plans.
- Conversations about surfing experiences and social situations related to the sport.
Advanced:
- Technical and surf culture vocabulary, discussions on sustainability, and the impact of surfing on the environment.
- Advanced grammar and expression of hypothetical situations, opinions, and suggestions.
- Discussions on topics related to marine conservation, surfing, and sustainable tourism on the Asturian coast.
Surf Lessons
On Salinas Beach, one of the best beaches in Asturias for surfing, located just 5 kilometers from Avilés.
Surf lessons are taught at Salinas Beach, a beach famous for its consistent waves and suitable for all levels. The instructors are certified professionals with experience teaching beginners and experienced surfers. Students will be grouped according to their level and progress from the most basic skills to advanced surfing techniques.
Surf Course Objectives
Principiante:
- Learn surfing equipment and how to stand up on the board, maintain balance, and learn basic paddling techniques.
Intermediate:
- Improve turning skills, perfect your posture, and gain confidence in bigger waves.
Advanced:
- Refine more complex techniques such as carving, barrels, aerial maneuvers, and how to read waves and currents to surf more efficiently.
